Bin Placement Restrictions

If you want to put a skip bin on public land outside your property, for instance on the nature strip or side of a road, it is necessary to comply with the rules of the local council and these rules differ significantly from one council to another. We will be happy to advise you on the requirements in your local area.

In some instances, a mobile skip bin can provide a convenient option where placement within your property is not possible

Inner city suburbs or areas with a lot of terrace houses often present more difficulties when it comes to placing your skip. Skip trucks are large by nature and require room to back into a driveway or alongside a nature strip. Neighbours' parked in the street or narrow gateways can be difficult when it comes to loading or unloading skip bins, so it is important to consider and plan where you want to put the skip.

Skip Sizes

Our skip bin estimator page can help you to decide on the size of skip bin you will need for your project.

As well as the cubic metres (volume) of the skip, please bear in mind the density of the material as certain material can be very heavy.

Delivery Times

Skips are usually delivered Monday to Friday between 7am and 4pm. Delivery times can’t be guaranteed, although we will do our best to meet requests. If you must have your skip for use first thing in the morning, please book delivery for the previous day to avoid inconvenience. This usually won’t increase the cost of your skip hire.

Mobile Skips

Mobile skips offer a great solution in many of Melbourne’s older suburbs where space is limited, and placement of large skip bins can be difficult.

These innovative bins are in the form of a trailer and have the advantages of being:

  • Able to be Locked with a padlock
  • Very easy to position in any driveway
  • Legally to park in the street - subject to parking restrictions

Mobile skips are not intended for heavy rubble such as bricks and concrete and must not be overloaded.

Placement

Some Melbourne suburbs are congested, have narrow streets, have limited nature strips or have council restrictions that make placement difficult.

Our customer service staff are experienced at providing advice on placement so please feel free to call for assistance or check our skip bin placement guide.
